Navigating in a Space of Synthesized Interaction-sounds: Rubbing, Scratching and Rolling Sounds
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we investigate a control strategy of synthesized interaction-sounds. The framework of our research is based on the action/object paradigm that considers that sounds result from an action on an object. This paradigm presumes that there exists some sound invariants, i.e. perceptually relevant signal morphologies that carry information about the action or the object. Some of these auditory cues are considered for rubbing, scratching and rolling interactions. A generic sound synthesis model, allowing the production of these three types of interaction together with a control strategy of this model are detailed. The proposed control strategy allows the users to navigate continuously in an ”action space”, and to morph between interactions, e.g. from rubbing to rolling.

Integrated Modal and Granular Synthesis
People can hear a lot of information about an object by tapping and scratching it. We have developed a TapAndScratch node that automatically synthesises the sounds of tapping and scratching interactions with haptic objects in the Reachin haptic API. The scratching sounds are produced by a granular synthesis algorithm that is used to provide information about interactions with the surface of an ...
متن کاملTemporal Aspects of Rolling Sounds: A Smooth Ball Approaching the Edge of a Plate
We measured the sounds of smooth metal balls rolling over medium density fiberboard (MDF) plates. In the spectrograms of these sounds we observed gradually varying ripples. These ripples were more closely spaced for the sound generated in the middle of the plate than for the sound generated closer to the edge. Furthermore, the spacing for lower frequencies was somewhat closer than for higher fr...

Sound as a non-visual component of landscape, has a significant impact on individuals perception of space. Because unlike the landscape that seeing and looking is totally an optional action, soundscape regardless of people comes to be heard and understood. Lack of attention to quality of emitted sounds in the environment may leads to problems such as noise pollution, lack of concentration, nois...

Subtitling for the deaf and hard-of-hearing (SDH) is an area which deserves a special attention as it ena- bles these people to access to the part of the ‘world’ intended for hearing people, including the world of ‘motion pictures’, and particularly movie sounds. Compared to linguistic sounds, non-linguistic sounds have received little attention in the field of translation, although they are in...

Objectives: To evaluate different signal-processing algorithms for tactile identification of environmental sounds in a monitoring aid for the deafblind. Two men and three women, sensorineurally deaf or profoundly hearing impaired with experience of vibratory experiments, age 22-36 years. Methods: A closed set of 45 representative environmental sounds were processed using two transposing (TRH...
